Dr. David Bossman of Seton Hall University To Speak at TBA

The Sisterhood of Temple B’nai Abraham sponsors several Kabbalat dinners with engaging speakers after Kabbalat Shabbat services several times a year. On Friday  February 1, at 7:30 PM, after 6:30 PM Kabbalat Shabbat services Dr. David Bossman, Professor, Department of Religion at Seton Hall University will speak on "The Jewish-Christian Dialogue: Why It is Important in a Pluralistic Society." He will address the values shared by Christians and Jews, how to raise community awareness of these shared values, and the necessity of improving relations between the faiths. Dr. Bossman's appearance continues Temple B'nai Abraham's long tradition of interfaith discourse. The cost  is in advance: $20 per person,  or $25 thereafter.

Noted professor Dr. David Bossman is a member of the Department of Religion at Seton Hall University where he teaches Jewish-Christian studies to undergraduates and graduates. He is the founding Executive Director of the Sister Rose Thering Fund for Education in Jewish-Christian Studies, which honors the Dominican nun noted for her activism against anti-Semitism and her contributions to the 1965 Vatican II document which declared that Jesus's death cannot be charged against "the Jews, then alive, nor against the Jews of today." He serves on the board of the Sousa Mendes Foundation, which preserves the legacy of Aristides de Sousa Mendes, the Portuguese consul stationed in 1940s France who issued 10,000 visas that enabled Jews to travel to Lisbon and then on to freedom from the Holocaust. Dr. Bossman has been Editor-in-Chief of Biblical Theology Bulletin since 1981. He is an ordained member of Holy Name Province, Order of Friar Minor.
