Being Thankful: Then and Now

Livingston Public Library is pleased to host a special program for the Township Bicentennial theme in November ~ Giving Thanks. Being Thankful: Then and Now  will begin at 7:00 pm in the Library Program Room.

Chris Bickel, Social Studies Supervisor for Livingston Schools and the Livingston School District developed the program with participating students and teachers. They explored  the concept of giving thanks in the past and present. Themes of food, celebration, family, and spirituality, showing types of foods eaten  at that time, how they were prepared, how people celebrated events like “Harvest Fest,” where families lived, and how they worshipped and prayed.

Second grade classes filmed responses to “What are you thankful for?”

Fifth grade teachers and students will enact tableaus of settlers in 1813 Livingston. The tableaus will briefly come alive to share information.

Township groups and committees created posters to answer the question, “Living in Livingston today, what are you thankful for?”

The free program is open to the entire community, but each person is asked to bring one item of healthy, canned food to be donated to the C.H.O.W. food pantry.
