Battle of the Bands for Books!

On Wednesday, Nov. 6th, from 7-10 pm, there will
be a Battle of the Bands for Books at the Montclair Women’s Club at 82 Union
Street. It is the night before Teacher’s Convention so there is no school the
next day. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door. There are 8 local teen
bands participating for first place and it will be hosted by the fabulous DJ
Zap Music.  There will be food, drinks
and other fun stuff for sale and all proceeds benefit the library of an
elementary school in Guatemala.  This is
a fundraiser to raise money for books to fill a new library in a brand new
school named Escuela Kemna’oj. The school is completely funded by a New
Jersey-based non-profit organization, From Houses to Homes. This project is
sponsored by Molly Frey, a 7th grader at Grover Cleveland Middle
School in Caldwell, in honor of her upcoming Bat Mitzvah at Congregation
Agudath Israel. Molly was adopted as an infant from Guatemala and has chosen to
do this special project so she can give something back to the poor children of
Guatemala, where the illiteracy rate is about 31% and the children are
desperately in need of books to help them learn to read and better their lives.
