Senator Codey Wins Re-election

The Democrat was first elected to the New Jersey Senate in 1981.

Senior member in the New Jersey Senate and Democrat Richard Codey was re-elected to his District 27 seat in Tuesday night.

The Democratic incumbent received 23,761 votes and 69.3 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results. Codey, who was first elected to the state Senate in 1981 and served as the unelected governor for 14 months in 2004 and 2005.

Codey beat out Republican challenger Lee Holtzman, of Livingston. The Republican challenger did not receive much help from being on the same line as Republican Gov. Chris Christie, who handily defeated Barbara Buono. Holtzman received 10,084 votes, or 29.9 percent of the vote, according to preliminary results

District 27 represents Caldwell, Chatham Township, East Hanover, Essex Fells, Florham Park, Hanover, Harding, Livingston, Madison, Maplewood, Millburn, Roseland, South Orange and West Orange.
