Christie Carries His Home Town In Tuesday's Election

Livingston gave Chris Christie its full support in Tuesday’s election.

The township backed the Republican incumbent and bucked its recent trend of favoring the Democratic ticket. Christie took 63.2 percent of the overall Livingston vote, compared to Democratic challenger Barbara Buono who received 35.4 percent, according to unofficial results. 

In addition, Buono did not carry a single one of Livingston’s 26 Districts.

Livingston also supported the public question concerning raising the minimum wage to $8.25 and tying it to inflation, with 64.3 percent voting “yes” and 35.6 percent voting “no.” 

In contract to Tuesday’s results, Livingston was fully behind Democratic state Sen. Corey Booker in the special state Senate election in October. Booker carried 61 percent of the township, compared to Republican Steve Lonegan' 39 percent.

At the local level, Livingston Board of Education candidate and incumbent Leslie Winograd led the pack with the most votes in Tuesday’s election, with 2,835 votes and 37.4 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results.

Art Altman came in second in the local school board election, receiving 2,532 votes and 33.4 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results. 

Incumbent Ronnie Spring and current president of the board failed to win re-election. He received 2,181 votes and 28.7 percent of the vote, according to preliminary results.
