7th-Graders Can Now Sign Up For Free YMCA Membership

'This is when lifelong habits regarding physical activity and sound nutrition really start to develop,' said Cheryl Francione, associate executive director at the West Essex YMCA.

Seventh-graders can now sign up for a free membership at the West Essex YMCA.

The Livingston YMCA has joined organizations around the state in offering the Seventh Grade Initiative. The initiative includes a free one-year membership for students in seventh grade.

Since the West Essex YMCA began offering the free membership in 2008, the Y has provided more than 250 seventh-graders with a one-year membership at no cost.

Here's how seventh-graders can get their free memberships: A parent or guardian must be present to complete the registration, and students must bring a school identification or a reporter card showing completion of the sixth grade or current seventh grade enrollment.

The free membership extends through June 2014, and seventh-graders can sign up through that date. All participants are also offered free programs such as teen workouts and Leaders Club participation.
