Old-Fashioned Family Picnic, Art Show Celebrate Livingston's Bicentennial Sunday

The day will include the Arts Council's annual Art At The Oval, historical re-enactments, a blood drive and much more!

The entire community is invited to celebrate Livingston Township's 200th birthday at the Old-Fashioned Family Picnic on Sunday. 

The Livingston Bicentennial Committee has planned an entire day of events to celebrate the anniversary, which is sponsored by Nero’s Grille. It will take place on the Memorial Oval in front of the Livingston High School from noon to 5 p.m. 

The day will feature rides, a petting zoo, a hayride, face-painting, music, clowns, games, carnival booths and a carousel. There will be also food trucks on site to purchase food.

The event will be free. 

Musical entertainment will be provided throughout the day, and will include special guests and Livingston residents Larry Cutrone and Dave Rimilis. Joan Rothbard of Recreation Picnic Services, a Livingston-based company, will also be providing the attractions.

Families are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Handicapped will be available at the Livingston Public Library. Cars must use the South Livingston Avenue entrance to Memorial Park. General parking will be available in the lots at St. Philomena’s Church, the high school and town hall.  

In case of inclement weather, most activities will be moved indoors.

Art Show

The Arts Council of Livingston will present the 14th Annual Art At The Oval during the picnic as well. 

The outdoor fine art and craft exhibition and sale that will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. This juried art event provides a venue for emerging and established local and regional artists and artisans to exhibit and sell their work.

The show is judged by a professional art juror, and artistic excellence is rewarded with ribbons and cash prizes.

Historical Re-enactments 

The Livingston Historical Society has joined forces with the Bicentennial Historical Committee to take you on an adventure into Livingston’s past by bringing the Old Force Home “to life!” Re-enactments of life in 1813 will take place with actors portraying our forefathers.

Families can also take a tour of our many historical sites throughout town.

Blood Drive

The Lions Club of Livingston is sponsoring a blood drive  through the New Jersey Blood Center from 12:30-5 p.m. on the day of the picnic. 

The Livingston at 200 events have been made possible by donations from lead sponsor St. Barnabas Medical Center. Other sponsors include Regal Bank, Crystal Plaza, Investor’s Saving Bank, Air Group, Eastman Companies, Kiwanis of Livingston, Nero’s Grille and Valley National Bank.
