New Jersey Monthly's annual 'Top Towns' survey, which was released in August.

The critics agree: it's good to live in Livingston.

The magazine New Jersey Monthly ranked Livingston Township the 68th best place to live in the Garden State in its 2013 "Top Towns" survey.  Mendham Borough took the top sport in the magazine's survey, followed by Warren Township.

Some other Essex County municipalities were ranked as follows:

  • North Caldwell: No. 3
  • Millburn: No. 62
  • Essex Fells: No. 72
  • Verona: No. 78
  • Montclair: No. 116
  • Roseland: No. 146
  • Maplewood: No. 179
  • South Orange: No. 233
  • West Orange: No. 309
  • Newark: No. 506
NJ Monthly's survey ranked 514 of New Jersey's 566 municipalities after dropping towns with populations under 1,500 due to lack of statistical data. The rankings took into account: home values, property taxes, crime rate, school performance and lifestyle, according to the website.
