Livingston's own Chelsea Handler has become one of Hollywood's most influential women over the years. The 36-year-old star has seen her books and late-night talk show rise in popularity.
Soon, however, Handler may be able to add sitcom star to her long list of accomplishments.
The host of Chelsea Lately, a talk show on the E! Network, is set to become the focus of an NBC pilot tentatively titled Are You There Vodka? It's Me Chelsea. The show's premise will center around the life of a twenty-something woman named Chelsea Hanson, whose character will be based off of real events in Handler's own life.
In the show, Hanson will be portrayed by another Jersey actress, Laura Prepon, who is best known for her role as Donna Pin in That 70's Show. Handler won't be left out of the loop either, as she will be starring as the main character's older sister, Sloane.
If the show is anything like Handler's real life, it promises to be anything but ordinary. In numerous interviews, Handler has stated that a lot of her material is based off events that occured while growing up in Livingston as the youngest of six children.
In December of last year, Handler spoke to NorthJersey.com prior to her show at the Prudential Center in Newark. When asked about how it felt to be returning to her roots, Handler cheerfully told the website, "I try to avoid New Jersey as much as possible, but this is a really good excuse to go."She was quick to admit that she did have a soft spot for her roots, "I actually love going home."
Filming for the pilot will begin in a few weeks, after that it will be up to the network if it wants to create a full-time series out of the show.
Fun Fact: Popular online movie database, IMDB, ranks Handler the most popular entertainer that was born in Livingston. You may be wondering, "What about Jason Alexander, who is famous for his role as George Costanza on Seinfeld?" Despite spending much of his early years in town and graduating from Livingston High School, Alexander isn't elibigble for the list because technically he was actually born in the city of Newark.
