Livingston Digs Out Of First Snowstorm Of 2014

Here's what you need to know about the storm on Friday.

The first major snowstorm has come and gone, but subzero wind chills will remain as Livingston residents dig themselves out Friday.

Between 4 and 8 inches of snow blanketed the region Thursday into Friday morning.

Livingston School District closed Friday due to the snowstorm. The district cited the "serious snowstorm and state of emergency" as the reason it canceled classes, according to the district website. All activities and programs are also canceled.

There is no overnight parking granted while streets are snow covered, according to the Livingston Police. In addition, the police will tow all cars that become stuck in the snow on roadways during the storm. Those owners will also receive a summons.

Gov. Chris Christie declared a state of emergency in New Jersey Thursday asking residents to "stay off the roads."

The northeastern part of the state remains under a winter storm warning until 1 p.m. on Friday.

The following is a rundown of what you need to know.

Livingston Police Contact

Residents are also asked to use 911 for emergencies only. For non-emergencies, call the Livingston Police Department at 973-992-3000.

Report Power-Outages

Residents are reminded to report outages immediately to PSE&G by calling 1-800-436-PSEG (7734) rather than contacting the police department.

NJ Transit Cross-Honoring Tickets

NJ TRANSIT is cross-honoring tickets through Friday, Jan. 3, according to its website.

Customers can use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode — rail, light rail or bus — including private bus carriers. As of Thursday at 2 p.m., NJ Transit customers are advised of the following:
