Food Day Events Planned for Livingston

The second annual Food Day on October 24 will be a big event in Livingston this year.

Livingston is gearing up to fight hunger by celebrating Food Day.  Throughout the month of October there are many events planned in Livingston.  Residents and non-residents are welcome and encouraged to participate.

Food Day, sponsored by the Center for Science in the Public Interest, is a nationwide celebration and a movement for healthy, affordable, and sustainable food.  Last year, for the first time, over 2,500 events were held in all 50 states in homes, schools, congregations, farmers markets, restaurants, libraries, supermarkets and businesses.  Food Day is held on October 24, but efforts can be held anytime throughout the year.

The concept of Food Day was introduced to Livingston by the United Way’s Pantry Partners, which had successfully brought the concept to Montclair last year.  Expanding in the second year of participation, United Way Pantry Partners offered support to Livingston’s organizing efforts.  Organizers attended a Livingston Public School’s Coordinated School Health Committee and presented the idea of Food Day in an effort to engage key partners and build on existing momentum surrounding healthy food initiatives.
