The campers of The Early School Camp of Temple B’nai Abraham enjoy weekly themed-activities. This summer the overall theme is “Travel Camp” where each week the theme revolves around a different country. This week the camp activities focused on Israel with many representative activities, including preparing and eating hummus, learning about the Israeli flag and culture as well as crafting hamsas , an amulet shaped like a hand. The name “hamsa” comes from the Hebrew word “hamesh,” which means five. Additionally the campers “visited” the “Western Wall” in Jerusalem which they built out of special bricks. Each child placed a note with his or her special wish between the bricks in the wall.
