Recycled Hanukiyah (Hanukkah Menorah) at the JLP!

"Campers" (students) in the Monday/Wednesday Chevrah Connection of the Jewish Learning Program (JLP) at Temple B'nai Abraham (TBA) worked in their color war groups to create a "kosher" model of a hanukkiyah. They could only use recycled materials provided to them! Chevrah Connection creates connections through social, cultural, educational, spiritual, Israel, and volunteer experiences. The goal of this program is for the students to grow in their connection to one another, the synagogue and their relationship to the greater Jewish world. This model draws upon our knowledge that Jewish summer camp, from which we pull these ways of learning, produces extraordinary love for Judaism. It aims to pull the relevant material from our curriculum and present it to the children in a way that invokes their natural sense of curiosity, fun and desire to excel. For information regarding the Chevrah Connection or other JLP programs , please contact Melissa Weiner, Director of Jewish Learning at 973-994-3950, e-mail mweiner@tbanj.org.
