Autism Event, Council Meeting Top Week Ahead

Towns events slated for Autism awareness, the environment and healthy kids.

Autism awareness event

The Livingston Advisory Committee for Disabilities  will highlight Autism awareness with "Shine A Light on Autism Night" at 7 p.m. tonight at the gazebo in the Oval on Robert Harp Drive. The rain location is the Livingston High School cafeteria. 

Participants are encouraged to wear blue to show support for Autism awareness and activities include a walk, music by West End and face painting.

Blue glow sticks, lanterns, t-shirts, bracelets and magnets are available for sale and proceeds will go to Autism Speaks,  an autism science and research organization, and Include Me, a new peer-mentoring program for children of all abilities that started in Montvale before coming to Livingston.

Township council conference

The Livingston Township Council will also hold a conference meeting at 7:30 p.m. and the agenda can be viewed on the township website

Solar panel talk

Concern about rising heating and cooling costs and concern for the environment are causing many homeowners to ask, “Is solar energy right for my home?” 

To answer that question, speakers and panelists will examine the practicalities of installing residential solar systems 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Senior/Community Center on Hillside Avenue

The program is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Livingston, the Livingston Green Team and the West Orange Energy Commission.

Arbor Day event

Livingston will celebrate Arbor Day with a tree planting ceremony 10 a.m. Friday at the gazebo at the Oval.

Prescription drug collection

Turn in your unused or expired medication for safe disposal to the Livingston Police Department 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the police lobby, 333 S. Livingston Ave. 

West Essex Y Healthy Kids Day

Healthy Kids Day will take place 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the

Healthy Kids Day is a YMCA initiative enjoyed across the country encouraging kids and parents to commit to keeping their body and mind active this summer. Free activities include a moon bounce/slide, fire truck, lawn games, healthy snacks and a special visit from Captain America.
