Original Plays and Music Programs On Library Lineup

Music programs and plays about presidential mothers, Vincent Van Gogh are some of the free February programs.

 

The Livingston Public Library, 10 Robert Harp Dr., has plenty of programs to shake away the winter doldrums. 

Library Director Judith Kron said there's a wide variety of activities geared to people of all ages, from youths to senior citizens. 

"Come to the library," Kron said. "You'd be amazed at what you can experience here and it's all for free."

Here's a schedule of events:

- Concert for family and friends by family and friends, 3 p.m. Saturday. The concert will feature classic, contemporary and original musical pieces. Performers include Amy Ciminnisi on flute, Danielle Ciminnisi on piano, Lea and Gregory Jennings on cello, Biljana Milovanovic on accompanist piano, Melinda Orengo on cello, Lena-Marie Stoger on violin, Sebastian Stoger on cello and the Jazz Chamber Group, featuring Tom Jennings on piano, Enrique Orengo on cello, Gottfried Stoger on soprano and tenor sax, and Michelle Wright on bass. 

- Free music workshop for teenagers in 8th- to 12th-grade featuring musician Kathy Moser, 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Teenagers will be able to write and record an original song. No music experience is needed. Reservations are required and e-mail dewilde@bccls.org

-  Blood drive for The Blood Center of New Jersey in East Orange, 2 to 7 p.m. Monday. Kron said if 30 or more people show up for the event, a donation of $300 or more will be made to the library. - Original play "First Mothers: The Women Who Raised America's Presidents," 7:30 p.m. Feb. 15. The play, written by L.E. McCullough and directed by Deb Guston, is a production by Pages of History. It features a cast of four women playing 14 roles, Kron said. The performers are Wynne Anders, Lisa Bansavage, Barbara Farrar and Laura Fois.

- Lecture on Rogers and Hammerstein songs, 1 p.m. Feb. 17, organized by Fred Miller. 

- Movie, "Dolphin Tail," 1:30 and 7 p.m. Feb. 22.

- Movie, "Sarah's Key," 1 and 7 p.m. Feb. 27.

- Original play "A Eulogy for Vincent," 7:30 p.m. Feb. 29. The play, which focuses on artist Vincent Van Gogh, is written by Ed Schiff and stars Brendan Walsh. For more information, visit the website
