Livingston Robotics Returns to World Championship

Landroids punch ticket to St. Louis for April competition.

This Sunday may be known as Super Bowl Sunday, but for members of the FIRST Tech Challenge team Landroids from the Livingston Robotics Club, they’ll have wait until April in St. Louis to play for the championship.

The team not only won the first-place Inspire Award, the highest possible honor, at the Delaware State FIRST Tech Challenge Championship on Saturday, Jan 26, earning a berth at the 2013 World Championship, but for the second time, the Landroids became the first New Jersey team to punch their tickets to the big event.

Over the weekend, more than a hundred Junior FIRST LEGO League (Jr. FLL), FIRST LEGO League (FLL) and FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) teams with students ranging in age from six to 18 from New Jersey, Delaware, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Singapore, gathered at the First State FIRST® Robotics Championship held at Bob Carpenter Center at University of Delaware, in Newark, Del.

The team will attend the New Jersey State FTC Championship at the New Jersey Institute of Technology on Saturday, Feb. 9, before hosting the 6th annual Engineers Week Robotics Exhibition at Liberty Science Center on President’s Day, Feb. 18.

More weekly competitions in different divisions and states will occupy the team before heading out to the championship.

Landroids was the 2012 FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship #1 Inspire Award Winner.

The team has since been inducted to the FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship Hall of Fame.
