Essex County Clerk Chris Durkin reminds voters the deadline to register for this year's elections in New Jersey is Tuesday, Oct. 16.

Livingston clerk Glenn Turtletaub will be keeping his office at Town Hall open until 9 p.m. to accommodate those who have not already registered to vote.  Anyone not registered to vote by then will not be eligible to vote next month.

It's a big election year, with President Barack Obama running for his second term against former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

There are also Congressional races, local elections, statewide questions and the Board of Education is on the ballot.

But it's not going to do residents any good if they aren't registered to vote.

Essex County Clerk Christopher J. Durkin is reminding residents Tuesday is the deadline for voter registration. Registration forms can be found on the clerk's website or at local town halls.

"Democracy is like a team sport - we want to make sure everyone gets involved," Durkin said.

Among the issues on this November's ballot are two state measures - one involving infrastructure costs for schools and the other about the amount of contributions judges should make toward their benefits.

Durkin's office also produced a video to remind people to get involved and go vote.
