Children's Cancer Organization Will Honor Local Girl

Fighting Children's Cancer Foundation will host its annual gala this month; Sydney Becker to be honoree.

The Fighting Children’s Cancer Foundation will hold its 10th Annual Gala at the Westminster Hotel in Livingston on Saturday, March 24.

Proceeds from the event — the organization's largest fundraiser of the year —will enable the group to continue its efforts to provide direct financial assistance to families of children afflicted with cancer.

This year, the organization will honor Livingston resident . Since the discovery of a rare form of bone cancer in her leg in January 2011, Becker has endured endless tests, surgery and nine months of chemotherapy.

Despite her battle, Becker has displayed an inspiring positive attitude. She and her family have remarkably found the time and energy to help others, managing to assist in the fundraising of more than $200,000 for cancer research.

“Sydney and her family know that behind every child with cancer is a family that needs help,” said Scott Kushel, a volunteer. “Since its formation in 1998, the FCCF has helped hundreds of families, and the letters and expressions of thanks we receive from the families and the social workers demonstrate the positive impact the foundation has had on their lives.”

There are several ways to help:
