Donald Roth of Jupiter, FL, proprietor of Don's Drive-In/Restaurant in Livingston, died on Nov. 25 at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, Palm Beach Gardens, FL. He was 83. Roth was born in Newark and attended Newark Academy, The Pingry School, and The University of Richmond, VA. He served for two years in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II before attending college. Roth got his start in the restaurant business in 1954 when he opened Don's Drive-In on the corner of South Orange Avenue and Hobart Gap Road. Don's was famous for its hamburgers made from Roth's special recipe. The restaurant was beloved by its customers, whom Roth was usually on hand to greet in the often-crowded waiting area. Over the years Don's expanded the menu and the building, adding more dining rooms, a bakery and a gourmet deli. The restaurant closed after Roth retired in the mid-1990s. He was an avid golfer, known for his sense of humor, and loved reading, history, classical music, old movies and a good cigar.
